Break Wastelands

[Piccolo]

Meanwhile as Goku and his siblings flew off towards Kami's Lookout. Piccolo grabbed Gohan and flew him to a new location for his training. This area was secluded and miles away from any known areas of civilization. The perfect place to begin his training with the young half-saiyan. As he landed he through Gohan into the water of the nearby lake to clean off the dirt from his clothes and to also get the boys attention.

[Piccolo]

Piccolo watched as Gohan began flailing in the water and said to the boy sternly, "Listen up brat! Today you are my student and you will be trained to fight the saiyans that are approaching Earth."

[Gohan]

Gohan was crying when Piccalo took him and carried him off. The last thing he saw was his dad, the mean guy and the girl all leave together but he didn't understand why or what was going on or even why his dad would let this green guy take him away. Next thing he knew he was dropped into a shallow lake and when he hit the water the combination of the chill of the water and the unexpected situation left him shocked and scared. He then heard the voice over head as he looked up and worked to regain his senses. He saw the green man floating over head and he then dragged himself out of the water soaking wet and he sat down while dripping wet and he said, "I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT...I WANT MY DADDY!!..." and he cried some more.

[Piccolo]

Gohan was crying when Piccalo took him and carried him off. The last thing he saw was his dad, the mean guy and the girl all leave together but he didn't understand why or what was going on or even why his dad would let this green guy take him away. Next thing he knew he was dropped into a shallow lake and when he hit the water the combination of the chill of the water and the unexpected situation left him shocked and scared. He then heard the voice over head as he looked up and worked to regain his senses. He saw the green man floating over head and he then dragged himself out of the water soaking wet and he sat down while dripping wet and he said, "I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT...I WANT MY DADDY!!..." and he cried some more.

The crying began to annoy Piccolo. As the brat cried and complained Piccolo landed next to him and irritatedly proclaimed, "Enough crying!!! It's irritating and you don't have a choice. He then suddenly found himself being flung towards a plateau as he was flying towards it his cries and screams of fear suddenly turned to a rage at being mistreated. Piccolo shielded his eyes as the destructive plume of smoke and ash erupted from the explosion. When the dust began to settle he looked out towards the plateau and was shocked to see nothing but a huge scar from the blast on the ground. He smiled and looked to the brat, "Well it seems you have some untapped power hidden within you. I'm gonna have fun molding it into a weapon against the saiyans." He reached down and grabbed Gohan once more, "Now listen up brat! I'm going to leave you alone for 3 months. In 3 months time I expect you to be able to survive on your own and at that point we will begin your real training."

Piccolo then walked over to a river not far from the lake and threw Gohan into it. He snarled at Gohan and said, "Don't even think about running away, because no one will come to save you. Your Hundreds of miles away from any human contact," Piccolo flew into the air and before he flew away he yelled back down to Gohan, "Now get to work you'll need food soon." Piccolo then flew off out of view. He then circled back around and watch Gohan from afar.

[Gohan]

Gohan found himself dumped into the river from a significant hight that was not high enough to kill him but high enough to scare the whits out of him. The river had a rapid current and as he struggled to keep his head above water he barely heard what the green man said.

He soon found himself swept down river and as he his assailant fall out of sight he struggle to find anything to grip onto. He then spotted an approaching branch and he reached up and just barely caught the branch but not without finding his outer tunic caught on a sharp stick and he found it torn. He then crawled out of the water and as he did he began to cry again.

He sat on the ground not sure what to do or where he was. He then got up and began walking and as he did he was miserable and scared. He had never been alone like this and as he walked he felt his stomach begin to grumble. This made him miserable and he looked around for anything eatable but he only saw unsavory green bushes and grass. He kept walking and as he was walking he spotted a berry bush that sat on the edge of some dark woods. He couldn't see into the woods but he was looking at the bush and he ran up to it and took a berry off of it and sniffed the berry. He put it in his mouth and bit down. It was a sweet blue berry and he got excited. He then went to work gathering a good bunch of berry's. As he did he failed to notice a set of hungry eyes looking at him.

He then sat down and began eating the berries when he heard a russle in the woods. He then looked up and as he did a giant head filled with huge teeth showed itself with a roar. Gohan stumbled to his feet and cried out then ran away.

The beast came crashing out of the trees. Its large bipedal reptilian body measuring twenty six feet from nose to tip of tail. The giant beast was hot on his tail eager for a tasty treat but the human like creature was fast and managed to dodge every move he made at him.

Gohan never felt such fear before in his life and this fear was causing him to move faster than he ever moved. When he came running out of the woods into an open field he headed for some rock formations. But heading out into the open also made him an open target and he panicked. He then looked at the tall rock formation ahead of him which was a good two times taller than his pursuer.

Gohan then began climbing the wall of rock without even thinking about how to get down and as he made it to the top of the butte he collapsed. He then looked over the edge and saw the dinosaur looking up at him with hunger in his eyes. He then crawled back to the middle of the butte and sat there and watched as the sun created to the horizon. For hours he was stuck up on the butte and as he watched the sun set he felt his exhaustion hit. He then curled up into a ball and fell asleep.

[Piccolo]

Piccolo watched as Gohan floated away. He followed not to far behind while still flying. He watched as Gohan was rushed through the rapids of the river. He smiled watching the brat getting tossed around. It made him wish it was Goku in the river. He then watched as Gohan crawled out of the river and began to cry. "Damn this kid and his non-stop crying. We'll have a lot to deal with to make him a man."

Thanks to his ears Piccolo could he Gohan's stomach grumble as he walked further into the wastelands. He smirked and flew off in search of food for Gohan. He knew if the kid died they have no chance of beating the saiyans.

When Piccolo returned he saw a dinosaur trying to eat the brat. He was going to intervene when he saw Gohan narrowly escape to the top of a Butte. He watch as the dinosaur walked away and the sun began to set. He watched as Gohan had fallen asleep and he flew over quietly and left a couple apples for Gohan. He flew back up and began to meditate once more.

[Gohan]

When several hours passed he woke up with the need to receive himself and he walked to the edge and did so while peeing over the edge. As he did he saw the dinosaur still hanging around at the base. He winced at seeing it and he fastened his pants and went back to where he had been laying. He then saw the apples and he sat down and ate them. As he did he looked up at the stars. He then fell back asleep and didn't wake again until the sun came up.

When he got up he checked all around the butte for a way to escape but he couldn't find one. He found himself stuck on the butte. The tears had ended but the misery of being alone and feeling helpless was overwhelming and he just sat there with his head buried into his knees.

Eventually sleep made him fall asleep again and after the second night he was feeling utter exhaustion. He woke up from a restless nap feeling thirsty and frustrated. He then went to the edge to pee and as he relieved himself he noticed a brighter than usual light that made his shadow cast out before him. He then fastened his pants and looked at the shadow confused. He never seen the moon before, his father made sure of that so when he turned around and looked up he saw the largest moon shining bright over head. He fell silent as he grew hypnotized by the beauty of it but as he did he began to feel odd and he felt a change happening...

[Piccolo]

Why humans must relieve themselves in that manner baffles me." He was preparing to fly away in search of more food for Gohan when he notice that he had stop moving. Gohan was just staring at the moon as if he had never seen it before. Then Piccolo felt a strong surge in energy coming from Gohan. Piccolo couldn't help, but watch the boy.

As Gohan was transfixed by the moon he found himself loosing a grip on his awareness. There was also a strange feeling overcoming him and before he could try to understand his world transformed. He felt his body change but before being able to feel the change he lost his grip on reality and a beast emerged. His body transformed into a giant ape like creature called an Oozaru. This transformation happens to Saiyan's that still have their tails and look at a moon.

He also unleashed several mouth cannon blasts that blew apart some of the surrounding buttes.

Before Piccolo could receive a response Gohan had already finished the change and was going wild. He started shooting overwhelming amount of ki out of his mouth destroying everything in his path.. Piccolo then flew down to try and talk to Gohan. He yelled to the transformed boy, "What are you doing Gohan?!? We are suppose to be training. If you destroy the world what will be left for me?!?" Piccolo awaited for his response.

Gohan was no longer aware of what he was doing. Now under the control of the Great Ape transformation he was left with his primal instincts to destroy and with his over whelming ki level he was doing a good job at decimating the area around him.

As he was going wild he saw the green man get in front of him and he reached down and grabbed him in an iron fist. He roared and was about to squash the thing in his hand...

Piccolo was trying to reason with the boy, but it seemed his efforts were futile as Gohan grabbed him and began to squeeze. Piccolo let out a yell of pain and looked the monster, that was Gohan, in the eyes. He yelled out to the beast, "Sorry, but I can't die to a monster like you." He began to charge ki and look the creature dead in the eyes as he yelled out, "Explosive Demon Wave!!!!" The ki Piccolo was charging erupted out of him in every direction, knocking the monsters hands off him. With his quick thinking Piccolo looked the creature in the eyes and shouted out, "Solar Flare!!!" a blinding light erupted around Piccolo, Blinding the giant ape, giving Piccolo a chance to fly up and think.

[Gohan]

As Gohan was holding Piccalo in his monstrous grip he was suddenly faced with an up close blast from Piccalo's explosive demon wave blast. The resulting up close blast caused him to drop Piccalo and try to shake off the painful effects of the blast which also blew him back several hundred feet.

When he started to recover himself he was his with a second attack of a Super bright light that left him blinded and reeling wildly as he tried to regain his vision. As he failed about unable to see he whipped his tail too and fro in hopes of hitting the green man.

[Piccolo]

He then remembered what Raditz had said. "So saiyans transform into this monster... what the catalyst though? What causes the change?" Piccolo pondered and then realize what Gohan had done. "I see so the moon is the catalyst." Piccolo then turned and looked towards the moon.

As Gohan regained his vision he was enraged by the painful blast piccalo inflicted on him and then the blinding light. He then spotted Piccalo and as he did he let out a roar and opened his mouth wide and charged up a mouth cannon blast and shot it at Piccalo who on instinct tried to block the blast. Piccolo heard Gohan's roar and soq the blast coming. He attempted to block it, but as it approached he knew he didn't have enough time to block it or dodge it fully. He decided to let it destroy one of his arms instead of all of him. He stared back at the monster and looked back at the moon. He let out a roar, "Damn it don't mock me you God damn moon." Piccolo then sent a special beam cannon out at the moon destroying it entirely. He smiled as it turned to dust he then yelled out at were the moon once resided, "Take that Moon, perfect orbit my ass." He then turned and looked towards the monster.

[Gohan]

While Gohan was raging he was not focusing on Piccalo so when Piccalo destroyed the moon he didn't have time to register the actions. He only felt his body go weak and transform back to its human form.when the transformation completed he passed out face first onto the ground.

Piccolo watches as the monster disappeared after the destruction of the moon. He then landed near the unconscious body of Gohan and regenerated his arm. He looked at the boy and said, "Letting you have power like that is too dangerous without you having control." Piccolo then looked at Gohan and realized he was naked. "What the hell is that thing? Well whatever it is I don't like it," Piccolo reached down and grabbed Gohan's tail and ripped it off, "This thing either."

Piccolo threw the tail to the side and looked at the naked child before him. He sighed and raised his hand in front of the sleeping child, "I guess I can't let you sleep without something to wear. Hmph." Energy surged to Piccolo's fingers as a bright yellow light enveloped Gohan. "There is gave you clothes based off your father's outfit, but the symbol belongs to me. I also gave you a sword to defend yourself against any enemies." He then turned away from Gohan, "You still have a month and a half before you complete your first portion of training. I'll watch over you, but don't expect any favors from me." Piccolo flew up and waited until the sun broke to make sure Gohan awoke.

Gohan woke up groggy and feeling out of it. he couldn't remember the night before only that he barely remembered seeing the moon and that he was on top of the plateau. Now he was on the ground and he was wearing new clothes. He sat up and looked at his clothes and noticed they kind of looked like his dads. He then saw the sword and picked it up and got to his feet. As he did his stomach began to grumble and this time he found no gift of food and looked around. He gave a sigh then started walking and as he walked he found there was no tears. He also didn’t really even fear the unknown anymore. He could only think on the blank moment in time as he tried to remember what happened. He knew it was big and that for some reason it made him feel stronger than he thought he could feel.

Finally his stomach was talking too loudly and he had to focus on finding food. When he found some berry bushes he plucked a bunch of berries. His skills though were not as good at deciphering ripe from unripe so he got a few sour berries that made his lips pucker. After that moment he learned fast and he began to get good at finding fruits.

After about a week or two passed he began to feel more and more confident and he ventured into places were before he would cringe and cry at going out of fear. He still wasn’t sure what the purpose of this isolation was but as time went on he came to the conclusion it was to find courage to face the unknown.
Gohan then spotted some apples high up in a tree and he stopped to think of how to get them down and he began to climb the tree. With a few failures he finally climbed up and was able to grab a couple apples. He ate one while standing on a thick limb while leaning against the trunk of the tree. It was a wonderful tasting apple. He then grabbed a couple more and tucked them into his gi top and climbed back down.

He repeated this routine of finding fruits for several days but as those days went by he realized he was not getting as full as he wanted and he started to crave more satisfying foods. And one day as he stood near a stream getting water to drink he saw a fish swim by. He wondered if he could catch the fish and if he could, how would he cook it. He didn’t have a means to start a camp fire. So the thought vanished and he walked away.

After about two weeks or so of getting used to being in the woods alone he got confident in his ability to gather fruit. He had also figured a way to do a campfire and when he did he began fishing and adding fish to his food. And after one satisfying night of eating a decent meal he fell asleep near the fire and forgot about the animals near him and the food he had laying out so when he woke up he found all his food gone.

[Narrator]

One and a Half Months since the Great Ape Incident

And so another month and a half passed as Gohan continued his survival training. Throughout his time being alone, foraging and fighting off the wildlife that decided to attack him, Gohan senses became sharper and more honed. He then realized he wasn't weak and defenseless. He knew he would be ready for the saiyans when the time came for a fight. As we return we see Piccolo approaching Gohans location to prepare him for his combat training.

[Gohan]

Gohan had been busy just trying to survive each day and each new challenge and as time went on things seemed to get a bit easier and easier. Even his confidence began to grow but when he stopped long enough to think back on his encounter with his uncle Raditz he grew worried again. But then he remembered the female who showed up and interfered. He couldn't remember her name well but he remembered her being nice.

He then went back to what he was doing. He had built up a routine of gathering fruits and keeping them safe after he had the one bad lesson of not being on guard and having his food stolen by an animal he didn't see cause he was asleep.

He also learned how to Ward off the local predators that kept harassing him. He even got bold just recently and began to fight back at the T-rex that kept chasing him and winning out the fight and knocking it out after cutting off a piece of it tail. He later cooked that piece of tail.

One night after a long day. Gohan was sitting up on a butte away from the annoying predators, Cooking some steak and eating some fruit. He was no longer as scared as he used to be and the silence of the night was a relaxing.

[Piccolo]

Morning approached as Piccolo flew towards Gohan's location. The time came to check on the brats progress. He looked over the Break Wastelands and saw Gohan napping on another Butte. He slowly descended towards him. He landed front of of the sleeping brat. He started to get annoyed and yelled out, "WAKE UP YOU DAMN BRAT!!!"

[Gohan]

Gohan heard his name being called by a angry sounding voice that sounded vaguely familiar. He opened his eyes to find the green man that dropped him out in this wasteland standing over him. He immediately sat up and looked at him. He then got to his feet and he said, "You...I want to go home!!"

[Piccolo]

Piccolo watched as Gohan stood and demanded to go home. Piccolo scoffed and said, "Thought you at least be happy to have someone, maybe I should leave you hear again." Piccolo turned his back and stared off into the distance. He sighed and then looked back at Gohan, "It's about time we began your training brat. Today you're going to learn how to fly."

[Gohan]

Gohan looked at Piccolo and at first he was mad, but it then turned to being glad to see someone. He then grew suddenly nervous and said, "No...please don't leave me again..."

He then heard him tell him he was going to teach him how to fly and he said, "Fly?...like you??...ahh ok..."

[Piccolo]

Piccolo scoffed at the sudden change in Gohan's tune and turned away again. He said as he walked away, "Come on and get over here. Unless you really don't want to fly." He waited for Gohan to approach him so he could begin his training.

[Gohan]

Gohan paused for a moment, he was still scared but being left alone was scarier so he decided to not resist. He then approached Piccolo and as he did he looked up at him and said, "ok what now..." and he paused as he didn't remember what his name was and he asked, "what is your name again?...I forgot..."

[Piccolo]

"Hmph... the names is Piccolo." Piccolo continued to look away. He focused his ki, and began to levitate. He flew away a little from Gohan and turned towards him and said, "You already know how to use your ki. This is a way of using it. The individual trying to fly must first manipulate their ki energy so that they can levitate or fly. Anyone with a sufficient amount of energy can learn how to fly." Piccolo looked down at Gohan and gestured his to give it a try.

[Gohan]

Gohan listened to him and thought about how ki worked. He remembered seeing his dad use it before but he also remembered how much he liked using nimbus to get around too. But he watched just the same and as he saw Piccolo start to levitate he began to understand and he sensed for his own ki and began to focus it. It wasn't long before he started to levitate himself. He then got excited and said, "Look Mr Piccolo I'm doing it!..."

[Piccolo]

Piccolo watched as Gohan floated in the air. He could understand why the kid was so excited, but they didn't have time for that. He turned towards Gohan and said, "Now comes the real challenge. I want you to fly after me as fast as you can. If you lose sight of me, focus on my ki and follow after me. You have until sun down to catch me. Do that and we will end your training for the day." Piccolo turned and flew off as fast as he could.

Gohan looked at Piccolo and listened to him. He suddenly grew scared again. Not at the task but the possibility of failing it. He didn't have a moment to argue or fuss over it. He just watched as Piccolo took off as fast as he could.

He got a slack face for a moment then gritted his teeth and focused his ki again and started to fly. At first it was shacks and slow but soon he gained speed. But his progress was put off by Piccolo's speed and he soon lost sight. He then panicked a moment then paused and tried to sense his ki. It took him a few minutes but then he did and he took off again. He tried hard to pick up speed and eventually he spotted him in the distance. As soon as he spotted him though he was gone and he paused in mid air and refocused then found his ki again, clenched his teeth then took off again.

this game of catch me if you can continued for nearly 4 hours and Gohan was getting tired. He then noticed the sun dipping lower and he panicked for a moment then he narrowed his eyes, scoped out the terrain then concentrated back on Piccolo's ki and decided to try and cut him off.

He took off this time with a new bit of determination and this helped him gain speed and he took a short cut through a canyon and when he popped out he came out right in front of Piccolo and he said, "HA!!...Got ya!!"

[Piccolo]

Piccolo just kept flying. He stayed within the boundaries of the wastelands and once he reached the edge, he flew circles around the place. He continued to dodge Gohan for a few hours, but even his stamina was waning. Just as he was going to go find Gohan he felt a presence approaching from his side. He slowed down just in case it was going to be a fight. As Piccolo came to a halt Gohan appeared right in front of him and exclaimed he had caught him. Piccolo let out a sigh of relief and pat Gohan on the head. "Not bad kid," he said, "How about you go and find yourself some food. I'll meet you back at the butte. Once you get back we'll discuss what happens next for your training." Piccolo then flew off back to were he and Gohan had met earlier in the day.

[Gohan]

Gohan felt pretty proud of himself though he knew there was lots more he needed to learn and so much was scary but he tried to put his fears aside and he gave Piccolo a nod then took off to go find food. He didn't realize how hungry he really was until he stopped and thought about it. He went on an immediate hunt for his normal fruits and stuff he liked gathering. He had gotten pretty good at finding ample fruits that were good to eat and by the time he got back to the butte he saw Piccolo standing near the edge of of the butte over looking the wastelands. He landed not far from him and released his spoils onto the ground then sat down and picked up an apple and began eating. While eating he was looking at Piccolo and studying him. He didn't really understand him but he started to see a quality he admired, though he didn't say anything.

He then said, "Mr Piccolo?...are you hungry??..." he asked ready to offer him food if he was.

[Piccolo]

Piccolo watched Gohan approach the butte and land with an ample amount of fruits. He watched as the boy started devouring the food in front of him. Piccolo scoffed and looked back over the wastelands when Gohan had spoken to him. He looked behind him at Gohan, who was holding an apple. Piccolo turned his head and said, "No thanks kid. Unlike you or anyone else on this planet, I don't eat food. All I need is water... I do appreciate the offer though. Go ahead and eat your fill. Your training will only get harder from now on."

[Gohan]

Gohan looked up at Piccolo as he held a half eaten apple in his hand. He heard him say that he didn't eat food like they did and he looked at him and said, "Ohh...well don't you ever get hungry?..." He then heard him say the training was gonna get harder and he slightly cringed then thought back on his Dad and he asked, "Where is my Dad go and why did he go off with that mean guy Raditz...is he really my uncle??..." he then finished his apple as he waited to see what Mr Piccolo would say

[Piccolo]

Piccolo sighed he looked back at Gohan over his shoulder, "When I get hungry," he said as he pulled out a gourd, "I drink water from this. I have no need for actual food." Piccolo put away his gourd when he heard Gohan ask another question. This time he turned and faced Gohan and said, "Your dad went off somewhere to train with the other two. As for Raditz being your uncle, I don't have any clue. Now hurry up and go to bed. Your training starts at dawn." Piccolo turned back around and began to levitate as he went into a deep meditation.

[Gohan]

Gohan gave a sigh as he listened to Piccolo speak. He then watched him levitate up in the air and began to meditate. He then turned his attention back to his food and finished eating then curled up and went to sleep. His dreams were filled with lots of things, most of which were confusing and mixed with his current living situation. His last bit of memory that hit him before deep sleep hit him was his mothers face. It started with a face of love and worry and ended with a face of scolding. He gave a small moan then rolled over and fell into a deep sleep with no more dreams to bother his rest.

When he woke up the rays of the sun hit his face and he opened his eyes.

[Piccolo]

Piccolo was still levitating when Gohan began to awaken. He slowly floated towards the ground and turned towards him. "It seems your finally awake," Piccolo said to Gohan, "Good. Now go get yourself some breakfast and once your eat we'll start your training." Piccolo then pulled out his gourd and drank some water from it. He than turned and look towards the sunrise.
